Chapter Six

Regrets, I’ve had a Few & Who Ordered the Crabs?

BRIT AWOKE TO HER LAST day in Vegas. Today, seminars would come to an end, and there was a scheduled awards dinner and roast for one and all. Kathy was already in the shower. From the looks of the still-made bed next to hers, Brit figured Kathy had stayed out all night with Viking Erik again. She almost envied her...almost. Thoughts of J.D. ran through her head. She wondered if all gigolos were so attentive that they made their clients crave their kisses, their touch. If so, it was a very effective way to ensure repeat customers. Brit couldn’t shake the idea that somehow, her encounter had been different. J.D. had seemed so sincere, so eager to be with her. The water shut off inside the bathroom, and Brit shook herself. Of course it wasn’t real. I paid for his company after all. All I need to do is look at my credit card bill to know it was pure fantasy...

Kathy stepped out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel. There were dark circles under her brown eyes, and she appeared a little green around the gills.

“The shower’s yours,” she said before collapsing onto her bed.

“Thanks.” Brit hauled her carcass out of bed and picked up her toiletry bag. “Are there fresh towels?”

“Yes. On the counter.” Kathy reached down and scratched herself.

Brit snorted and went to bathe. Her mind was so inwardly focused that she was dressed, and ready to walk out the door before she even realized it.

The two women made their way downstairs to the conference room level. Brit was lost in thought. She couldn’t stop thinking about J.D.’s last kisses. She’d left his room the night before without waiting around. He’d gone into the bathroom, promising to be right back, but for what, she didn’t know. All she knew was that something had changed, her heart knew it even if her brain refused to acknowledge it. She leaned against the wall of the elevator, chewing her thumbnail. Something nagged at her, something external. Brit turned and caught Kathy scratching herself again. She appeared agitated.

“What the bloody hell is wrong with you, Kath?”

Kathy fidgeted, and then reached down to scratch the general area of her crotch once again. “I don’t know. I have a damn blazing itch that won’t go away.”

“An itch?” Brit’s mind reeled. “Internal or external?”

“External. It feels like critters crawling all over me!” She scratched again as the bell dinged indicating they’d arrived on their floor.

Brit grabbed Kathy’s arm and steered her past the throng of people waiting to climb into the lift. She looked left and right, and then dragged her friend right, and straight into the ladies’ room.

“Stall, now!” Brit pointed, and Kathy rushed inside the first open stall. Brit followed. “Lift your skirt and let me see.”

A toilet flushed, and a door opened next to them. A middle-aged woman walked to the sink casting strange glances behind her.

Kathy pulled up her skirt and yanked down her hosiery and panties.
